Selina's Big Score

By: Darwyn Cooke & Matt Hollingsworth

The graphic novel focuses on Catwoman's shift from thief to superhero. The story takes place between the two ongoing series.  Selena is forced to fake her own death and disappear, but needs cash since her final heist turned out to be a dud. She reluctantly returns to Gotham looking for something to put her back on her feet. Using some contacts, she finds out about a Montreal-bound train that the Mafia is using to transfer $24 million for a heroin deal. The job requires Selina to round up a small gang to assist her, including ex-lover Stark, the man who helped her make the switch from prostitution to the life of crime and betrayed long ago. After she reignites the flame between herself and Stark, the two assemble the crew and figure out a way to loot the train.  While this is happening she is also dodging Slam Bradley, a pesky old-school private eye who's figured out that the late Selena Kyle isn't quite dead.

Selina, Stark, and Bradley narrate the story which is a complex yet easy to follow story that weaves flashbacks to Selena's past with breathtaking action of the present.  The story focuses more on Selina, the person behind the mask and not her alter ego Catwoman.  Cooke's writing and Hollingsworth's illustrations complement each other perfectly.  Overall this is a great book and one worth picking up and reading especially if you are a fan of Darwin Cooke.
