(Modern
Lover)
This
book is
like the
comic I
have
been
waiting
for all
my life
but I
never
knew it.
I really
love
almost
everything
I’ve
read
recently
from
Vertigo,
but this
really
hit a
nerve
with me,
because
I’ve
done
some
community
service
on the
Yakama
reservation,
and it
is a sad
and
scary
place,
and
stories
that
really
deal
with the
modern
Native
American
culture
besides
as a
place to
gamble
or buy
illegal
fireworks.
It’s
nice
to see
someone
addressing
the
issues
that
arise in
the
horrible
conditions
of the
reservation.
The art
and
writing
are
stellar,
and the
only one
minor
complaint
I can
make is
that
there
are a
few
places
where
page
layouts
are
slightly
confusing,
and it
is not
clear
what
order
the
panels
are
supposed
to be
read in.
Otherwise
the art
and
writing
work
well
together
and it’s
a very
engaging
tale
that
seems
likely
only to
get
better.
The
story
centers
on Dash
Bad
Horse,
an FBI
agent
who is
working
undercover
to
uncover
the
corruption
in his
tribe.
Lincoln
Red
Crow,
the
chief,
is
running
a
corrupt
regime
and
everyone
seems to
be under
his
thumb.
Dash
really
doesn’t
want to
do this
since
this is
the
reservation
where he
was
born,
and he
has to
deal
with his
mother
who
views
him as
someone
who has
sold out
his
tribal
pride,
because
he is
working
with the
corrupt
police,
but he
can’t
explain
to her
why he
is doing
this. He
also
is
having
trouble
with the
chief’s
daughter.
She used
to be
his
girlfriend,
but she
is
married
now, but
now that
he’s
back she
wants to
get back
together.
The
chief
also
seems to
be
setting
up a
trap for
Dash
that
develops
over the
course
of these
three
issues.
This is
a great
introductory
storyline
for this
series.
You may
not have
the
emotional
connection
that I
have to
it
through
my past
experiences,
but it
is still
a damn
good
story,
and well
worth a
look if
this
sounds
like
something
interesting
to you.
