Looking for a way to introduce younger kids to comics?

Loved the Justice League cartoons and wish they were still on with new stories?

Just can’t get enough of the animated DCU?

Then you should take a look at the Justice League Unlimited comic that is in the Johnny DC line.  I was afraid that when the show was cancelled that the comic would be gone as well, but so far its still showing up in Previews each month.

I originally got the Justice League Adventures comic based on the show on Cartoon Network with my kids in mind.  My son loved the show and was around 8 and just starting to want to read comics a little.  He liked the book OK (he loved Teen Titans Go better, but that’s another review).  I read them as well and I actually started reading them before I passed them down to him.

Just like the Justice League Unlimited cartoon was an upgrade from the Justice League cartoon, so was the JLU comic better than the JL Adventures comic.  More characters and more directions to go with the stories.

The stories are much like the cartoon, pretty simple, much of a silver-age feel.  The art style is just like the show too.  The females aren’t overly-endowed or scantily-clad, so you’ll feel comfortable letting younger readers see them.  My favorite part each month is the guest stars.  So many characters I had hoped to see more of in the cartoon are featured here in the comic, often in their own story line.

Adam Strange, The Question, The Creeper, Stargirl, Vibe, Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters, and many others have been featured in the book.  Stories that never got told in the cartoon find life here.

My kids always keep me on my toes by asking me to identify the new characters each month.  The stories are actually fun to read and not too juvenile. Overall this book is a good read and an excellent way to introduce kids to the wonders of comics.
