Justice League of America #3 Review by Chris Partin The Tornado's Path – Part 3: "the Brave & the Bold"

Writer: Brad Meltzer Penciller: Ed Benes Inker: Sandra Hope & Mariah Benes Letterer: Rob Leigh Colorist: Alex Sinclair Assistant Editor: Jeanine Schaeffer Editor: Eddie Berganza

I have to say that this is the best issue yet. The past few issues haven't been bad by any means, but what I think makes this issue the best so far is that we're finally getting into the meat of the story and seeing some of the pieces that Meltzer has been putting out there come together.

This series has been about a variety of different storylines. We've got Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman discussing and voting on who should be on the team. We've got Black Canary, Green Lantern, and Arsenal hunting down Red Tornado's body. We have Black Lightning investigating the de-powered super villains. And finally we have Vixen who has basically been blown up. The pieces are scattered across the table and slowly we're seeing two pieces over here fitting together. Two more pieces over here fitting together. We're getting a bigger picture, but not the whole picture and I'm enjoying that a lot.

I think people are having problems with the pacing of this series. I think people are just impatient, and they want to see a team together in the first issue and have them run off and get into some action. I think the pacing of this book has been great. There's a lot going on and you can't just slap a team of heroes together and call yourself the Justice League - just go ask Firestorm. You get a real sense of the pacing of this storyline within this issue because of all those pieces I referred to before are finding one another and you see that most of this is happening at the same time. The only piece I'm not sure about is Red Tornado. He's still an unknown for me right now. The interesting thing is he's probably one of the more crucial pieces to this whole storyline.

The overall writing for this issue continues to move along nicely. I don't think I've had any real issue with any of the writing in any of these issues so far. I think the relationships that Meltzer is working with like Black Canary, Green Lantern, and Arsenal especially have been fun to read. If there's a character I think is going to gain a lot of attention in this series is Arsenal. Meltzer has been working with the character development that Judd Winick built in the pages of Outsiders and really made Roy an enjoyable character to read. I'm excited to see Arsenal in this series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Justice League of America is a really solid series. Brad Meltzer and Ed Benes were a surprising creative team when they were first announced but I'm loving this series because of what they have put together. Justice League of America is a must read and continues to be on the top of my reading list.
