Sometimes
life
gets in
the way
of doing
what you
want to
do most
in
life.
And for
me that
is
writing
about
comics
in my
bulletpoints
review
column.
I have
been
going on
with
personal
health
issues &
the
stress
of
moving
stuff
from one
place to
my
apartment
finally
got to
me. But
I am
feeling
better
now and
for that
I am
going to
give you
guys two
comic
reviews
for the
price of
one
Superman
#400
from
1984 &
Action
Comics
Annual
#10 from
2007. I
will
highlight
the good
parts
but not
spoil
the
contents
within
these
issues.
I hope
you like
the
changes
with the
reviews
of these
special
issues
of
Superman.
So lets
get
started
shall
we.
First up
is
Superman
400 that
has a
list of
great
writers
&
artists
in the
DC
Universe
from its
past &
present.
John
Bryne.
Frank
Miller.
Will
Eisner.
Steve
Ditko.
Jack
Kirby.
Howard
Chaykin
and many
others
in the
comics
industry.
Including
a
foreword
by a
great
writer
of
science
ficton
in his
own
right
Ray
Bradbury.
I compel
strongly
any one
who
reads
this
issue to
read
that
first.
As I
read the
story
itself
it was a
good
story
but
something
was
missing.
Maybe as
a fan
peoples
taste
change
over
time.
But for
it just
lacked
something
that did
not grab
me on
the
story
alone.
It was
just not
my type
of story
that
highlighted
Superman
& his
history.
Is it
bad? No
I think
in my
heart of
hearts
that the
book was
not
writen
for fans
like
myself
in their
youth or
adults
today
but
rather
fans of
Superman
from
another
era
(people
who read
the
golden
age or
silver
age
Superman
stories).
Rating
for the
story is
a 7.0
out of
10
Raging
bullets
with the
art
within
the art
changing
every
few
pages it
would be
unfair
to grade
it but
it is
not
terrible.
But the
book has
two
saving
graces
the pin
up art
from the
great
artists
of the
day—Byrne,
Eisner,
Kirby,
Austin
makes it
very
special.
For the
pinup
art
alone it
is 100
out of
10. It
is just
that
good!
And the
second
saving
grace
was
there
was no
ads not
one.
But for
four
dollars
it was
worth it
every
penny.
Moving
on to
Action
Comics
Annual
10
writen
by Geoff
Johns &
Richard
Donner
and
others
plus
various
artists.
This
also
costs
four
dollars
and even
though
it had a
few ads
(mostly
of
various
DC
titles
coming
out
soon) it
was
worth
the
price
too.
First
off it
has been
years
since we
had a
Superman
annual
of any
kind.
This is
a
welcome
return.
The
stories
from
“The
Many
Deaths
of
Superman”
to
“The
Criminals
of
Krypton”
spotlighting
General
Zod &
his
minions.
But to
include
the
deadliest
forms of
Kryptonite
was a
necessary
tool in
learning
what
version
affects
Superman
in what
manner.
The
story &
art of
this
annual
was both
9.0
raging
bullets.
And the
special
sections
showing
the
Fortess
of
Solitude
in great
detail
in art
was
Super
fantastic
&
Superman
Top ten
Most
wanted
is a
worthy
read for
any
Superman
fan.
Both
issues
bridge
the gap
between
Superman’s
past,
present
&
future.
And for
me I can
not wait
to see
what the
future
holds
for the
Man of
Steel.
